Impulse Response II

I had such a great time recording Impulse Responses in this lovely empty outdoor swimming pool. So much echo and reverb I was taken aback.

I definitely have to keep my eyes and ears open to find other places such as this swimming pool that are not functioning as they normally would. In this case it was simply off season and the pool was retired, or hibernating over winter and spring. It'll be filling up with water very soon as the season will begin 1st May.

I recorded myself clapping inside the empty pool from various different positions. This meant that the sound reflections coming back off the tiled walls were sometimes even and most other times uneven (anytime I was not standing in the centre of the pool). This can create some lovely echoes and reverbs. I discovered some fantastic phasing / flanging effects when very close to the corners by the swimming pool stairs.

Check the claps out here and you can hear the effects too. If you really want to check what these claps can do as Impulse Responses, then pop them in a convolution reverb plugin and behold the amazing depth, and be transported to... an empty swimming pool, or anywhere really! I tested on some of my vocals and I sounded like I was in a lovely valley a time long ago.

Wanted Sound

Wanted Sound explores and documents the sonic landscape and wonders that constantly surround us. Many sounds are taken for granted, often very familiar accompaniments to what we receive visually. Some sounds however are so powerful they leap out at us and demand we do something! It is possible to hear the beauty in them all. Wanted Sound captures all those lovely, wanted sounds!
